Chickens Are Almost Ready

Chickens Are Almost Ready

Hey There !

Dave from McElhoes Family Farm/Belmont here.

I was planning to process chickens this week, But a couple of scheduling problems have cropped up, and it looks like it will still be a couple of weeks. What..a...year...

I guess that is still good news, because we certainly will not have to deal with so many smaller birds like last batch. We should have a decent selection of both the the Old Fashioned Country Chickens as well as the Gourmet Country Chickens. Although it definitely will be skewed more toward the larger sizes.

I'll send out an update by email, but also watch the website for inventory updates. Also, if you email me directly, I will try to notify you as soon as I can.

Special Note: One customer has sent me an email with some questions. I have tried contacting you, but my email has been returned as undelivered. I know you are a good customer, so please hit me up again. I'd love to answer your questions directly. Thank You.

If you want to pick up chickens "at the farm gate" let me know and we can arrange a time that works for you. If you have been by lately, you know the driveway is still in rough shape. I will simply meet you up at the farm stand. Don't forget to bring your cooler, as the chickens will be frozen and shrink wrapped.

Katie has been releasing her monarchs as they emerge from their cocoons. We send them off with a prayer that they make it back to their home grounds and return in greater numbers like they were when I was a kid. She will harvest Milkweed seeds when they are ready, and they will be available for free in the farmstand if you wish to start your Monarch Santuary.

Lambs are still growing, albeit slowly due to the weather and poor grass growth. We do not feed grain, and although we have been tempted to use the balanced rations, we like the taste and purported benefits of grass fed meats. We do feed a special supplement in their minerals, which we feed free choice. Kinda like ruminant vitamins and minerals. This year we have even had trouble getting those (don't worry, we still have some). So I reckon we are not the only folks worried about nutrition this year.

If you have pre-ordered a lamb, I will contact you directly when we are getting close. Probably a month or so (will this year never catch up...?).

If you are a member of our Chicken Club, please don't forget to email me with you preferences so I am sure to hold your orders first.

Not a lot of fun stuff to report this week, I reckon. Too busy scrambling to save the summer and prepare for the upcoming fall and winter.

Thanks for Listening,

Dave
