Hey There !
Dave
from McElhoes Family Farm/Belmont here. Still not a lot going on here
at the farm, so I figured I'd make this quick to give your inbox a rest.
We are still buttoning up for winter, and we really never get done until something freezes and breaks - the real test of our preparedness.
Next
week I will be cooking two separate Thanksgiving Dinners, and I am
planning and gathering my mise en place now. In my attempts to support
local businesses as much as I can, I have been trying to buy some of my
herbs, spices and blends locally. I have used several, and while this
one is perhaps not strictly local, it is a Pennsylvania company. Right
now my hands down favorite is Spices, Inc. Besides having a great
selection of herbs and spices, especially peppers, they have a really
nice selection of blends for chicken. This
isn't an affiliate link, and I currently have no business with them, I
just have been enjoying their products, and thought I'd share with you. They ship quickly, so there is probably time to get delivery before the holiday. They also have a Turkey Brine Blend,
which I hope to try soon. It's sitting on my counter now, but I
probably won't get to try it this holiday. My extended family are less
than enthusiastic about anything different than standard 1970's
favorites. It was a struggle to get them to try my green bean casserole
because I make it from scratch without canned soups and such, and don't
get me started on cranberry sauce...
For the other dinner, the other side wants roasted chicken because they don't like turkey. Shameless plug, but I still have a few roasters here.
OK, Guess I blew it for keeping things short.
P.S.: I have been pondering trying my hand at grass fed, heritage turkeys next year. No real plans yet, and they are stupid expensive to raise, but I hear great reviews on the flavor. Let me know if this might interest you for next year.
