A Break in the Bleak?

A Break in the Bleak?

March(ing) Forward

Hi!

It's Dave from McElhoes Family Farm/Belmont.

I am kind of excited. There is a new feel to the sun, and I can feel its warmth on my face even on the cold days we are still having. I am writing this on Monday (I start early to get a lead on my procrastination), and even though it's not quite warm yet, things are starting to happen here.

Kate has moved her first batch of pullets out of the brooder and into the temporary coop that will hold them until the 'weather suits their clothes'. Next batch is scheduled to leave our mudroom (hooray!) about midweek - so by the time you read this we'll be moving forward to renew our egg supply despite the chick shortages being seen at the major hatcheries.

The snow is finally gone from the east pasture, and I can finally see the fencing materials where I left off in the late fall. I am feeling conflicted - should I seed the herbs I want for spring yet, work on the newsletter and my messy website or just get outside and feel the sun?

We are planning on selling a few seedling plants from the farmstand again this year. Probably won't be enough to plant out your whole garden, just a few things we find tastier or more fun than the selections we usually see around the box stores.

Might get a few more perennial cuttings going too, but I need to step that process up too.

I'll hang the sign out on the stand when we are ready, so if you happen to be by, feel free to stop by and look. The nasty driveway is on the repair agenda (again) this year, so...

Hope Spring is starting in your neck of the woods too.

Thanks again for your continued support,

Dave
